If you’re like me and already been isolating for over a month, my home is starting to feel slightly claustrophobic. I’ve created a few coping mechanisms to help me keep motivated (and sane) during these uncertain times.
USE THAT ONE HOUR OF EXERCISE
Now whatever your opinions are of Boris, he has allowed us one hour of exercise a day… use it! A movie or bed day does sound appealing, but it does get boring very quickly. I’ve found that going for a walk, jog or run helps me gain some normality back into my life. However, make sure you are venturing out in your own community as the government have advised us not to drive to any locations to exercise!
SPRING CLEANING
I’ve cleaned my flat top to bottom about 14 times since being in isolation, but now I’m using this time more efficiently to organize those dreaded cupboards and wardrobes. I recently found the Style Sisters on Instagram, and they have so many useful tips! I’d highly recommend checking them out to help inspire your own ideas!
LEARN NEW RECIPES
With a busy 9-5 I used to struggle to find motivation to cook or bake anything, but now I have nothing better to do! Recently, I’ve been trying new recipes from an old cookbook and making my favourite treats (I’m already on my third batch of brownies and joined the banana bread frenzy).
CONNECT WITH YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS
Use this time to speak to your loved ones, whether it’s on the phone, Facetime, Zoom or The House Party App. I currently have a routine with my family to FaceTime at a certain time every day, as we’re all self-isolating separately. Luckily enough I live with my boyfriend so I do have company everyday; although, I do miss not being able to see my family, friends or my dog.
Make sure to check in with your friends! I‘ve been using this time to connect with everyone throughout the last few weeks. Myself and the girls have also come up with a weekly pub quiz night to keep us entertained until we can see each other again.
GET INTO NEW HOBBIES
This is how The Journo Life started! I’ve recently been put on Furlough so I needed something to stimulate my days. Although I manage a website for a living, I find that during work I have so many other tasks that need my priority that I find it difficult to find the time to write. So, I created my own blog to keep me motivated during these times and to be able to express myself creatively. I’d also like to take up Art again, but annoyingly I’ve left all my supplies at the family home, so I many have to do a bulk order soon!
My advice would be to use this time to get into a new or old hobby, start a DIY project, clean out those old draws, breath in that fresh air whilst we still can and stay connected with your nearest and dearest during these uncertain times. I’ve found that creating a routine and completing productive activities has helped me to create a sense of normality, and hopefully it will help you too.
